They have been trying to talk me into ordering the rebuild with 1st and 5th of an evo IX. it's $600 more I can't afford but I was considering at least 5th. driving 75mph at 3200rpm-ish is total crap, my se-r does 3200rpm at 85mph.

can anyone chime in on their IX trannys? do you drive at lower rpm's on 5th than an VIII?

When my IX tranny went out, I swapped in an VIII tranny with a 5th gear modification. I was able to drive at around 80 in 5th gear at 3400 rpm. Depending on where youre located at and if you want to ship your transmission out, I can get you in touch with UCS Performance located in Silver Spring, MD. I know the owner (Greg) personally and honestly he does great work. Last I knew the 5th gear mod was only an additional $150 on top of the rebuild cost.

I'm thinking of just leaving it as is. 5th just sucks but the rest doesn't bother me. Shep is asking more than $150. I already have the transmission on the way to shep thanks though man.

Lol, if that was the case, there would be no reason to have a 4th gear. It would end up being a 4-speed Evo. Im pretty sure I had to shift out of 4th around 120mph.

That sucks. Good luck in finding a new transmission though. Heres a few things I pulled up so far.

2005 MITSUBISHI LANCER EVO 8 MR 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION: eBay Motors (item 370438003285 end time Oct-27-10 10:59:22 PDT)

2006 Mitsubishi EVO 9 MR 6 Speed Transmission on eBay!

Maybe one of these can at least get you back up and running.

so the tranny I purchased from the other forum was blown as well. I don't want to get into a whole thing about it, but here is what it sounds like now!

It doesnt grind going into any gears so I'm hoping its just a bearing. But I'm worried I welded the bearing to the case! BUT No fluid was leaking. I gotta get into it and see what happened.
