EVO X Mud Flaps required?

I saww over on EvolutionM.net that a bunch of people are having problems with the tires kicking up everything it touches on to the side of the car. I took my car into the Canyons yesterday and when I got home the wheel wells and around the edges definitely had plenty of road "splash" but most of it looked like just the fresh rubber (or brake dust) off my brand new tires. Anyone else having problem with rock chips? Would the Mud Flaps fix this? I'd prefer flaps that were a little less flashy.

I don't have a X but I would say that on any car, mudflaps will help protect the side from debris off your tires.

I saw a thread on the other site about someone who made their own from generic flaps at the auto store. They looked good, not too flashy. I believe they guy had a VIII or IX but I'm sure you could do the same.

I'll be making some soon since Mitsu never made flaps for ours, and the ones you can buy on the web are priced a little high.

edit-

Another good way to protect your car is with a clear bra. 3M clear vinyl. I have my whole front end, the rocker panels, side mirrors and edge of doors done. I've had my car almost 2 years now and no chips or scratches where it's protected. I've had the film/vinyl get scratched but it did not make it through to the paint. Great stuff!

I don't know if it's worse on the X than normal, but I got a clear bra over many parts of the car on day 2 of ownership. I now wish I had done the entire hood instead of half, because the front half looks brand new while the area just above the line is chipped in many places.

Are you saying you already had clear bra and then got chips?
