Evo IX and MR performance differences?

14846 Views 18 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  kbr56
I'm a DSMtuners member and I just sold my GSX.
I'm currently looking at a few luxury and/or performance vehicles. The 06 Evolution ranks right up there at the top so far.

I have a few questions about the EVO though.
I came across an article a few months back that compared the 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times for the 3 models in 06..
I have searched and searched for this magazine article but havent' had any luck. I've also gone through pages of info on this site with no luck.

I understand the differences between the three models(5 spd, 6 spd, suspention, etc) but I would like to know the performance differences and the pros and cons of all.

I'm also looking into the IX with the leather/sunroof/stereo package.

Thanks for any assistance.

the evo MR has BBS wheels that are about 2.5lbs lighter then the enkeis, so there is less rotational mass. it also has a Vortex generator that creates more downforce on the rear spoiler. i don't have exact numbers between a Evo9 and a evo 9 MR, I would love to see a actual comaparison between models.
shocks, aluminum roof, wheels, vortex generator
i remeber about coming across that article myself actually. i remeber seeing that the base exceeded in 0-60 but the mr took 0-10 or something like that? and didnt the rs win in braking? they all excel in there own fields it seems it depends on the cash you got, and what you wanna do with the car in a whole
There's negligible differences in performance. The RS is much lighter, which helps a bit, but they all have the same power with minor differences that you won't notice.
i believe there is a difference in stock BOV and Turbo from the GSR to MR, but im not a expert on it, maybe warrtalon can answer them

No, there are no engine, turbo, bov, or any power-related differences between the models; however, there are power differences between the years:

06 > 05 > 03/04
Thanks all.
As far as performance.
I guess I was really debating because of the possible differences between the 5spd and 6 spd transmissions. Better gearing could definitley affect 0-60, 1/4 mile times, etc.
I was just wondering if it was significant.
Now weight savings is a whole other thing. We all know that weight can affect all aspects of performance(times, braking, handling, etc).

As I mentioned earlier I was looking at some luxury cars and some performance cars.
This is when I came across an 06 IX with the Sun, Sound and Leather Package. I had no clue that package was offered. That gave a performance car a little more luxury. That definitely put the IX up at the top of my list for now.

Thanks

well i was thinking more like different types of bov's from the MR to IX, but that could be the 05's, and i thought MR's came with 10.5 hotsides, but again i guess that was the 05 MR.

yea dont quote me on that

Whoa, nellie! Take what I said and apply it to your train of thought. What I said was...

"No, there are no engine, turbo, bov, or any power-related differences between the models;"

This means each model within a given year has the same power-related features (bov, turbo, etc). I then said...

"however, there are power differences between the years: 06 > 05 > 03/04"

All 03/04s have the 9.8 hotside (except for some 04s built in late 04 are rumored to have gotten the 10.5)

All 05s have the 10.5 hotside and improved wastegate port

All 06s have the aluminum BOV, larger compressor housing, 10.5 hotside, and improved wastegate port

No MR has anything that the other models from the same year don't have - in terms of power mods, that is.

sorry about that, thanks for clearing it up, stuff i wasnt sure about. so the performance aspects are the same across all 3 models.
It would be nice if someone had that article. I am deciding among them also.
Deciding wether I should get the MR or the regular 5 speed. If its worth the extra for the MR.

Well, there's 3 versions that have the 5spd, so you need to learn about more than just the "regular 5 speed." Those links I gave show all the differences in each model for the IX.
Also, for '06 the gear ratios got tighter in the 5sp box as compared to previous years.
what i did, i got 2004 gsr , in 2005. they couldn't sell it ./in pensylvania/ with 150 mph in it. and i spend a rest of the money to upgrades. so now 2 months later i had the same priced car like the MR 05 ,but this is kill the 05 MR. It worked out for me perfect ,so my experience is do somethig like i did,if you want fastes car for money. So the same money you spend the MR you can have the lot faster RS or little bit faster GSR.that's my opinion.

ON the mitsu website it shows that the MR is a 6 speed and the IX is a 5 speed... The 5 speed gets a hint more better gas mileage and its lighter than the MR.... Im thinking of getting the IX... both the same engine and you can alway mod eather way.
Evo mr

Evo mr difference is that it has 6 speed tranny instead of a 5 they also have different turbo that spools 100 rPm faster the rims mirrors seats the ayc has 10 percent more power out the rear wheels so it can slip Out easier on turns its also have vortec genetrotors on the roof alumin roof and aluminum fenders thats the only difference
