Hello all:

I was wondering reading the post of engine comparative from evo to 2G...

What else is different in these cars? I mean... is there a comprehensive compendium made about it?

There gonna be some things swapables.... and I am sure we can all get some extra power by swaping lots of things (In either ways, to have some GSX even better, and some EVOs also).

What are the different versions of evos?
What is a Lancer ES?
What is a Lancer LS?
What is a Lancer OZ-Rally?
What is a Lancer Evolution RS ?
What is a Lancer Evolution ?

I think the EVO comunity lacks of some very valuable resource as the VFAQ is for the DSM comunity....

I hope we get something out of this thread to make a nice first faq about this :D :thumb:

Lancer ES/LS are the base models of the Lancer available here in the US, they come with a 2.0l SOHC pos motor (Not sure, I'll look later.) The OZ Rally has OZ rims and have the 2.0l SOHC motor as well. This motor puts out 120 [email protected] rpm makes 130 torque.

The ES has the option for a 5sp mantran or a 4sp auto.
The LS only has the option for a 4sp Auto.
The OZ rally has both choices.

The LS is also the only one out of the three to have an ABS with EBD package (Dealer option)

The Lancer RalliArt edition has the 2.4L SOHC MiVEC (Similar to Honda's VTEC) it's putting out 162 [email protected] rpms and making 162 ft/lbs of [email protected]
The RalliArt is the hopped up version of the base models, and has all the options of the first three base models mostly factory installed; there are other dealer options.

The Lancer Evolution RS is a Lancer Evolution with NO power options (So pretty much shitty interior, crank windows and manual locks) They have the same power train and motor as a normal Evolution (4G63)

The Lancer Evolution is the full out real deal. Everything is not an option it's all included (Aside from a sunroof and/or Big Carbon Fiber wing.) The car comes with a 2.0 DOHC Turbo (Twin scroll 16G) with a FMIC and sprayer. This car along with the RS is AWD, while the base model lancers are FWD.

Also if you really think about it the DSM is the poor man's go fast tool, the EVO is the sort of rich man's go fast tool :thumb:.

There is nothing swappable motor wise from Evo to DSM. You could swap the Intercooler (Not advised as it flows like shit) the same plastic BOV that you 2g dsmers have and that's about it. The motor while still being a 4g63 has a lot of differences one noticeable one is that it's rotated 180 degrees.

IS Evo RS fitted with a turbo?
I thought twin scroll was on the dsm 2g instead on the evo.

Only difference between RS and "" is power options? Shouldn't that be a dealer option?

I thought plastic bov present in 2g was worse than the bov in 1g. Is the evo equiped with a plastic bov too?

Has the evo too balance shafts ?

What is the wheelbase of the 2g Eclipse and of the EVO?

As blatantly advertised everywhere the Evo has the twin scroll turbo, I don't know if DSMs have them but I could be wrong.

The Evo RS is the same exact car as a normal Evo power wise (It has the same motor/turbo/driveline/tranny) It just has no luxuries such as power windows and locks.

As I explained in my first post the 2g's have that awful plastic BOV, the Evo's have a similar one, but I guess it holds high boost, it's still not something you'd want to put on your DSM.

Every car has balance shafts, it's to keep the car from vibrating inside of the car (to balance...)

The wheel base in inches is 103.3 for the Evo, I do not know the 2g one off hand.

Only thing you missed is the limited slip front differential on the RS.

The DSM's never had a twin scroll turbo.

Do I win being the biggest Lancer fanboy ever? (I've wanted an Evo since I was about 5 when I first saw them on tv on some show my dad was watching.)
How old are you? I have wanted one since I discovered what they were back in 1996. Since I couldn't get one I get the "EVO 0" Galant VR-4 to hold me over until the actual lancer came over.... :)

I read this...and I thought:cry: these questions just seem so basic or easy to find at least.

i mean just go here

www.mitusbishicars.com

I'm not flaming...I'm just trying to point out that this is very easy info to find...and I would have answered the questions, but they were already answered

My roommate has a oz rally lancer, my brother a gsx-at, and i have a evo..

For comparision purposes, the gsx holds its own well on stock suspension. I've felt a couple gsx's with JIC and tein suspension, and it made a world of a difference. Stock, it feels like a boat. When I installed my RMDSM rear sway bar, it made the car a lot more fun to drive. The understeer was a lot less than before.

my roommates's lancer is a awesome daily car. It has good low end torque, but lacks mid to top. The interior is damn close to the evo. He has upgraded eibach springs on his car. Let me say, he wooped my brother's gsx-at on the twisties near our roads going down(the gsx started tire squeeling and body sway was horrible on hard turns). Driving his car around made me get used to the evo.

The evo stock, is a damn good car. Just giving it a bit of gas and shifting at 4000rpm, the car feels like it doesnt have any turbo lag. Handling on the car feels good... (i've been spoiled by my buddies single turbo mkiv on teins, and a xs engineering turbo celica gts on teins, and a mr2 turbo ) I haven't pushed it enough on the handling area, but my close buddy (graduate of bondurant school of racing) test drove the evo and commented that it handles pretty sweet vs. his brother's STI.

on speed wise, i did have a fun run with my brother. He was driving the evo, and i was in the gsx. I put the gsx into 2nd gear, and him on 2nd or 3rd gear. Flooring it, the evo pulled ahead.. but the eclipse i was driving started pullin the evo in from 4-6k and was even became with it (on 15psi) by the time we let off because the evo's still in its breaking-in period... :D (no suprise there, the gsx dynoed the same hp numbers as the stock evo at the vishnu evo dyno meet)

And that's all i have to say about that.. hope it helps

Bad boy...slaps hand...

I actually surprise the GSX pulled ahead...but we'll have you do a real race later;)

And if it really is pulling on the Evo...hmm then maybe after we finish tuning the X it'll be that much better. I say 19psi...it'll run fine:thumb:

Ok i know the motor is 180 diffrent but what about cams? could you take the cames from them and use them in dsms? or how about the lighter valves? I know the turbo spins the other way but when i spin the blade it spins both ways so wouldn't we be able to put the turbo on our cars or would it take a custom mani making it pointless?

I'm not sure about the cams but I don't think so. As for the turbo, no. There is no way to fit the Evo turbo into a DSM and have it work without totally rearranging the engine bay. You'd have to reroute all the intake and exhaust. The Evo's turbo is basically just a reversed 16g anyway. It's a lot cheaper to simply get one and put it on.
