I just got a autometer mechanical boost guage , i know there is many formus on how to install one but my guage is a boost only guage no vacum. So my question is where do i tap my line in for my boost guage ? Do i still connect to the fpr line? Or is that just for the guages with a vac also? Help me out fellas thanks !

Tee into the line between the intake manifold and the fuel pressure solinoid. I wish my digital camera was charged up.
yeah, the one w/blue lines on it that comes off the fpr.
I teed the small piece of hose that comes off of the manifold to the the fuel pressure solinoid, not after it. In the engine picture in the above link, it's just to the right of the red box, runs to the brass looking square, and wrapped with plastic. This will give you accurate boost and vacuum readings that's occuring in the motor.
I'll get a picture tonight.
would it be a better idea to have a vaccum/boost gauge or is just a regular boost gauge fine???

on a dif topic...if you are interested in having the light for the boost gauge come on when you turn your headlights on....a good place to splice in is the light of your cig lighter...that way when your lights go on...so does the light in your boost gauge!! i will have install pics of that soon if your interested.
haha...or do what it says on that website that you were looking at! either way.

Go with a vacuum/boost. You can use the vacuum readings to diagnose engine problems. I can't remember all off the top of my head, but I think a rapidly fluxuating vacuum at idle is a head/valve problem. There's a whole page dedicated to vacuum reading in Chilton's manuals.

P.S.
My batteries for my camera sh!t the bed. I don't have that picture yet.
OK so i am wondering now if all the forums on these autometer guages are true "Garbage"?? At WOT my car is boosting 22-23 on the autometer mechanical boost only guage, then tapers down to 19-20 at redline. Is this normal for a stock evo? Should i trash this guage and get a vacum/boost autometer mechanical . Or better yet just get a different brand like defi ?? Let me know your thoughts thanks guys :dsm:
if completly stock, it should max out at 19psi, then taper down to 15-17psi at redline. autometer makes good gauges, ive got a autometer phantom boost gauge and it works fine. if you have intake/exhaust items, they can make the boost climb slightly.

I've seen a lot of negativity towards the "cheap" Autometer and VDO gauges. I've used both, installed several others over the years, and have never had a problem. I've seen the same problems over the years too, even from the highend gauges, and IMO it all comes down to this; installation.
Tee the right line. Take you time and don't pinch or kink the line. Double check for leaks.

It is typical for the boost to taper by redline on stock Evo's.
Ok so the whole time i had the wrong line t-eed . I hooked up the right line and checked for kinks and still got the same boost reading of 22-23. I changed guages to a autometer vac/boost guage and now im reading 19 and 16-17 at redline normal right?? The only thing is that in 5th gear im boosting 20-21 psi is that normal ? cause all the other gears hit 19 and taper down to 16-17 like they should.. hmmm :rocks:
I have an 05 evo too...when i hit WOT...it peaks at 21-22 and then drops to 19 then tapers to 17-16. It has done this ever since i have owned the car...and it is supposed to act that way. Everyone who i have checked with gave me the same reply...with a few variations because not every car is the same!! ;)
