Changing spark plugs on an Evolution VIII is one of the easiest things you can do to keep your motor at it’s peak. It’s also a good way to see what’s going on in there with this little guide;
http://www.machv.com/diagsparplug.html

You will need the following tools;
10mm socket,
13/16 spark plug socket
6 inch extension
the appropriate ratchet(s)
(torque wrench is optional)

1. Remove the four 10mm bolts holding down the spark plug cover. Remove the cover and set it aside.

8. The last thing you want to do is cross thread spark plugs into the head. A little trick I use; with the spark plug socket and extension, unscrew the spark plug you just put in there. Yes unscrew it, go counterclockwise till you feel the threads “click,” or drop into place. That’s the right spot where the threads meet, and start screwing it in, by hand first, and the spark plug should take the threads easily. If it doesn’t screw in by hand easily, find out why before you damage any threads. You will never cross thread if you do this little back out trick first.

9. If they are new plugs and you don’t have a torque wrench; tighten it 1/2 to 2/3 more turn after the you hit the crush washer, but this is only if it’s new. If your just reading the plugs and reinserting them; tighten to 18 (+/-4) ft lbs.
