Subaru owners in genearal (not all, just most of them) are ####ys! They are terrified to do anything on their own, and believe as gosphel anything a "tunner" tells them.

This has the potential to swell the head of ANY man.... so it is understandable for someone who has been a real money maker as a tuner in the Subaru world to have a swelled head and get an attitude problem when anyone questions his wisdom. The fact that your average DSM geak has 10 years more tunning experiance on turbocharged 4g63 engines than he has seems to make no difference to him... we should all bow down and worship his vast knowledge of the art of tunning.

I am venting because I have been hanging out on Subaru sites now that I am working on the WRX. I feel like a fool for paying $600 for what is basicly a pump gas reflash from Cobb tunning. The "come on" for the AccessPort promisses race maps. Anyone familiar with tunning thinks this means a 100 octane map, a 105 octan map, a 110 octane map, and a 116 octane map right? NOPE It means a crappy little map for autocrossing that removes the boost control changes from the stage 2 map! Thats it! Putting the boost back to stock levels is their "race" map! They have no intention of giving out "real" race maps.... you have to pay extra for a custom tune, or for tunning software to make your own maps.... an extra $400 for something that was advertised as comming with the basic package.

This is what I call "bait and switch" sales methods... but the "autocross" race map pretty much makes it impossible to sue them for false advertising.

There will always be those who believe what they hear based on a name or a title.
There will always be those who research things themselves and find out what's really going on.
Can you blame Cobb Tuning, or any business, for trying to make money off of suckers and chumps? I don't. You did your research to find what you are getting. :thumb: Now go find those same fools who are running their stuff and get your share.

There are plenty of tuners out there. Hell, with the tools available these days, you don't really need the pro tuners as much as you used to. That's what these forums are for - to help people learn and do their own mods and tuning. Unfortunately, some people see the names of these popular tuners who participate in other forums and get intimidated. They start eating out of their hands. I trust my car to nobody.

Hopefully we can get more of the DIY'ers in here so that more info is shared and the EVO community becomes less dependant on these pro tuners. Only then will we realize the potential of these cars. Shiv has his way of doing things. It's not necessarily the right way or the only way. Unfortunately, not everyone realizes that.

Exactly! I am not saying Shiv is a bad tunner, just that he isn't God :)
