Would it be better to insall a greddy type s bov, or a turbosmart dual port, both can be recirculated, or vented, but the dual port can be adjusted to anywhere in between, with say 75 percent recirculating, and 25 percent venting? or are there any other bovs that anyone would recomend?..any experiences good or bad.
thanks

Any BOV/DV that fully recirculates and that doesn't cost a ton is what I suggest.

One that fits both criteria is the JDM MR DV, which is just a metal version of the stock DV. It fully recirculates, causes 0 idle or driveability issues, holds boost up to 25psi, and costs just over $100. I think it's the best choice for anyone who is worried more about performance per dollar instead of noise, but for those who want to run more than 25psi and/or a larger a turbo, the greddy type s with single spring mod should be good.

Thanks for that. I was looking at that JDM MR bov. Road Race Engineering has a greddy type s that they have modded for the evo that should work pretty good, and the sound on those is pretty sweet too, not that really matters, but hey if your spending the money, why not. Thanks for your help.

Well, my point is the opposite - if you're just getting sound, why spend the money? For less than half the price of others, you can get the JDM MR DV, which will work flawlessly for the stock turbo even at the limit of its efficiency. I love the fact that my BOV is not visibly nor audibly noticeable. People seem to equate purge noise with power, so when they don't hear any significant purge from me on the street, they assume I'm stock or just underpowered. How surprised they are when the timing lights flash low 12s!

Anyway, with an aftermarket intake (Injen, HKS RS, AEM, Buschur, etc.), the JDM MR DV makes a good bit of noise, too. I still use the stock box with a panel filter, so all intake noises are drastically reduced...

i myself have a turbosmart dual port bov and hate it. Worst choice of my life. It sounds cool but gets REAL OLD. i wish i woulda gone with a jdm one or a 9 bov or "dv" when i upgraded. I had mine on and it ran shitty, so then i made it fully recirc. and besides some idle differences thats it, still shitty, still never knew when it was gunna quit. Put the stocker on thinkin it couldnt be the bov, it was. stocker made my car run sooo much better, made shifts seemingly smoother, just wow.

I have tried the HKS, Greddy, and Perrin. My car didn't run right, or idle very well with the HKS bov. I kept getting faulty Greddy bov's, but my friends are running them without problems. I am currently running a Perrin bov, and I do not have any problems besides having to regrind the plunger once a month to keep it from leaking. JDM MR is the way to go. Holds boost, and does not have any drawbacks. I will prabably be switching over to a mr bov here soon.

Well i finally went with the HKS SSQV no recirc kit, no Idle stabilizer and my car runs awesome. no stauling, no funny idle. have had no problems with boost leaking...what i do suggest for people getting this blow off valve though, if you plan on venting it...not recirculating..do not use the little aluminum plug that they include to plug off where your stock bov once mounted. its not deep enough, so when you tighten the hose clamp, it sometimes pushes it and mine popped out a few times. what i did was went to autozone (any auto parts store should work) and got one of the universal freeze plugs...its like a bolt, 2 washers and a rubber bushing thing that when you tighten to nut on the bolt, the plug expands. its an 1 1/2" - 1 3/4". then i tightend the hose clamp onto that. but as far as the bovs go...i like the HKS. its a good unit. i have heard of it not working well with evos..but i heard that the 05 has somekind of idle control or something..dont know if its true..but my car works fine with it.

I can't believe you did that. After all the advice you went and got a useless BOV for the Evo that is absolutely horrible for drivability. You may think it's not causing problems, but it is, and you'll experience it over time. Venting metered air absolutely causes a rich condition between shifts, and there's nothing you can do about it on a MAF-equipped Evo. The plug you use is of no concern other than yours doesn't pop out. You still are going to suffer all the problems that everyone else suffers when using that BOV.

I'm very disappointed you did that. You think your car works fine with it, but it does not. The only reason you think it's fine is because the 05-06 ECU have a slow rpm drop feature built in for emissions which randomly and unfortunately tricks ricers into thinking their VTA-equipped car runs "fine." Unfortunately, 99% don't realize that the stumbling idle or idle drop when braking and coming to a stop is only one of the symptoms - a very minor one at that. The worst part is between shit richness that throws off the tune.
