I'm thinking of picking up a set of rims and tires for the track only. I'm leaning towards a set of SSR's or Volks......any other suggestions on rims and tires?

Thanks!

I have a set of SSR's and they are really nice...and lighter than the Volks in the 17x8 size...

but I think I'm selling mine because I want to run 9 inch or 9.5 inch wide rims on my EVO with 275's...thats what I would suggest...I would also assume they would fit with the right offset, its only 1.5 inches wider...

Especially if your only going to use them for racing, the wider the better.

I have SSR GT2s for my street wheels. Love em. Wouldn't buy them now tho' SSR went out of business.

For my track wheels, I'm running 5zigen fno1rc's. 17x9, +35mm ofset. also Toyo RA1's 255-40-17. 5 zigen's are great for the track, lighter than stock, strong, no flex, and relatively cheap, easy to get.

275s fit without rubbing? Wow, that's huge!

That's impressive that your SSRs weigh less than Volks...I used to have SSRs, and they were BEAUTIFUL (and light), but I only got them as a DOWNGRADE from the Volk Challenges I wanted (month-long wait), that were a bit better-looking and lighter.

I also had no idea SSR went out of business...wow.

I have 17x8.5 SSR Competition (Type C) rims. Currently have 255/40-17 Pirelli Corsa PZero DOT R-compounds on them, which have lasted 5 track days and about 10 autocrosses and have at least a couple of autocrosses left in them. Waiting to go on the rims are 255/40-17 Toyo RA-1s. Anyway my SSRs are +30mm offset, if I had to do it over again I'd get +35 or +40 to move the wheels a bit further "in"; the reason is that the 255-wide tires barely clear the rear fender lips. Though a +40 offset might require modest front spacers (to allow the wheels to clear the Brembos)--which might require longer front lug studs (I currently get about 9 turns of the lug nuts).

Anyway long story short, 275s will require some rolling of the rear fenders. As for the front, you'll want to get coilovers with 8" or shorter springs to give you clearance on the inside. A bit of fender rolling and you'll be able to fit 285s all around with the right combination of offsets and spacers.
