Ok I know this a Evo site and all, but I want honest opions.
Which is better
Evo or STi

Performance?
Style?
Aftermarket?
Price?

The reason I ask is because in the next couple of weeks I am starting a new job making almost 4 times what I make now, and in 6-10 months I'll be looking for a new car, so I'm just trying to get a good opion on what people think about both of them

Also does anyone know of any STi sites?
Thanks for the help

Well, it really is all opinion. Because both cars are really good.

HP/TQ wise the STi has more stock

Evo - 271hp/273tq STi 300hp/300tq
Style...well that is totaly opinion...I like the Evo better...But the STi is nice. I personally don't like the STi interior...the only thing I like better about the STi interior is the Gauge cluster...thats it.

Aftermarket- The Evo has way more, basically because it is still off of the 4g63 platform that so many people are familiar with.

Price...The Evo is cheaper.

I tried to only give you the facts without to much opinion...I like both cars...but I like the Evo better.

Another thing I like about the Evo is that it stayed by the Rally 2.0L limit where as Suburu said screw it, Americans don't care...lets put in a 2.5L.

A 2.5L is "better" sort-of...but I would rather stick with 2.0L in a rally car since that is the rally limit.

I know this is sort of personal but what kinda job are you in right now and how much are you making? Pardon me asking but I am only 16 right now and I have no idea what I want to be.

I have a WRX and was thinking bout the STi. I drove the STi but didn't drive the EVO. IMO if you are gonna mod, go Evo, if stock go STi.

PS. A good wrx in general site is www.wrxtuners.com

I recently traded in my WRX for an EVO and thus far am confident I made the right choice. Caught a little sh*t from my Subie buddies but I think it's all jealousy... Anyhow, I did a lot of homework on whether to get an STi or an EVO and drove them both. Two kickin' cars, but I had to choose the EVO. Anyhow, here are my thoughts:
Performance: The EVO outhandles the STi, no ifs ands or but(t)s. One test drive was all it took. Goodbye you understeering Subies! Off the line, though, the STi feels a little quicker( owing to the EVO's more pronounced turbo lag ), but not that much. And a 6 speed would be nice...
Style: It's a toss up, I am partial to Subies, and you cannot beat the sound of those boxer engines, but big hood scoops are a major problem at speeds over 110mph- the whole hood starts waving at you, which is not stylin' at all... To me, the EVO has that 'all-business' look about it and I like the shorter hood and how it just drops off when you look down at it from behind the wheel. Both cars definitely get better-that-average attention from chicks, ricers, the general public, and( unfortunately ) Johnny Law...
Aftermarket: Really depends on what your goals are. My are modest, since I'm lazy( and also I want to be able to return my car to 'stock' fairly easily, just in case I have to go back to the dealership ). However, if you are planning an exhaust upgrade, be aware that on an STi there are 2 catalytic converters you have to worry about ( should you have to endure yearly visual inspections or such ). Subaru is getting better, somewhat, since us WRXers had 3( including one in the uppipe before the turbo ) to contend with. Why Subaru can't use only one cat( like Mitsubishi ) is beyond every WRX owner who has ever lived... Also, you can't put just an aftermarket turboback exhaust on an STi, better use some engine or boost management or you will get boost creep( which can be a very, very bad thing ). There are numerous threads on the web boards concerning this topic. To my knowledge, this is not a problem with the EVO, though the consensus seems to be that the first aftermarket piece of equipment every EVO owner should invest in is a new clutch. Biggest b*tch about the EVO: no boost gauge. Appalling, but easily remedied.
Price: I got my EVO for 27. I probably could have gotten an STi for around 30 and Subaru was offering like $500 cash-back on even the STis and they previously ran some sweet financing deal, too. Mitsubishi offers no incentives that I am aware of EVOs. But also keep in mind that STi's come without a radio/CD player.

Nice summary nixstur...

I had the same problem also. Should i go luxury chick magnet with the 350z/g35 coupe or rx8 or performance with the evo/sti. After getting a ride in the sti, and taking a evo for a test spin... it was apparent..

I already have a girlfriend... I need a fun car

Between the evo/sti, it was difficult....Here are my extra reasonings (asside from the things nixstur said)

Pros:
-the evo had a very nervous steering response which I love. There is absolutely very minor lag between the user response time and the wheel turning.
-Another Pro for the evo is the badass engine capability. My brother and i own a eclipse gsx, and the potential is definately there.
-Suspension is godly in stock form. It totally schools a stock gsx...
-Those recaro's fit better than the STI's. I'm a small guy, and the seats fit like a glove.
-the bulletproof 5spd tranny allows better 0-60 and a better 1/4 time due to less shifting.

cons of the evo:
-rumors circullate that the evo has a POS stock clutch. No biggy, just replace.
-No cruise control?! it is a double edge blade. I drive 180 miles once every month to visit my family, that does suck. But added weight also sucks too.
-No AYC/ ACD... search for more info, very dissappointing
-DAMN ENKAI POS's. Naw, they're not pos's, they're just butt ugly. Can't complain, theyre descently light and forged with great tires that wear out fast. But it doesnt compare to the STI's stock BBS rims.:(
-Interior sucks vs. the g35/rx8/sti
This was where mitsubishi went cheap. You could feel it.

But you know what? It's a DAMN FUN CAR. The sti had extra bells and whistles, but after reading some threads about the sti 6spd tranny being slower and the sti's crappy knock sensors at high rpm's, i pass on the sti and going with the time tested and proven engine. :dsm:

Well the RX8, Evo, STi, G35, and 350Z are all fun cars to drive. I have driven all but the Evo and G35. They ALL outperform most cars on the road but the question is how much power do you need. Yes the EVO handles a lot better than the STi but like you said the EVO interior is real cheap. Also for the bigger people the EVO seats aren't as friendly as the STi's. The RX8 has just the sexiest interior I've ever sear w/ the Red on black leather. The RX8 and 350 are more luxury w/ sum power. I am 16 and I don't need luxury. But because of the 4g63 engine's reputation and the EVO's handling, I would go EVO. But wait a few years and the EJ20/EJ25 will have about as much support as the 4g63 and it will be making more power. The STi has a bad ass tranny and it can take almost anything you throw at it. If I had 30 k, I would go STi, If i had 35k, I would go EVO. That simple

I agree... The reason why people would rather go luxury is because of this situation i have:

Imagine going to a job interview or meeting up with friends that have had jobs for a while for dinner. You roll up with your loud ass exhaust and high wing with a bright blue/red car.

My friends would kinda laugh, i'm carrying the racer-boy image still. They would roll in with their e55 AMG/SLK / M3 / IS300/ dropped g35 coupe with a nice sound system and great interior. When they ask for a ride in the evo, the harsh ride and shitty interior would just be shameful.

You're just in a lower class car. A STI could at least appear to compete to be a bit more luxerous. If you don't believe me, sit in a new Mercedes. The heated leather seats and roomy interior will put a smile to your face.

And also try taking a ride in a //M5. The automatic tranny shifts faster than any human could (85 milliseconds i believe) and run damn quick consistantly with nice leg room. Great in traffic, and damn quick. Definately sometime in the future, I'm going luxury for a daily driver.

Well lets just say this, I just turned 19 I should be starting my new job soon, and I'm putting away everything I make so I can put a nice down payment on the car. I agree with what everyone is saying mostly, and I am definately leaning towards the Evo, but just like everyone says the Evo interior is just bleh, whereas the STi has a nice ass interior and a nice little 6 speed :) You guys arent helping me out very much :) :) cuz yeah right now the STi doesnt have as much after market support but just imagine in a year or two how many fast ass STi's will be around. I'm not saying there won't be just as many Evo's but yeah. I dunno what I'm gonna do, good thing I still have a few months to decide :)

Ya...I turned 18 in Jan. and I just work at a restaurant here in town...a damn expensive one at that. But ya...I'm think I'm going to buy a bike for the meantime as transportation...and save up and get this MR when it comes out before the end of the year...it looks nicer and is better.

BTW...didn't I say the Evo interior is nicer than the STi interior...it just is...I don't like the Subbie interior at all...Evo isn't luxurious...but its nice..
