Is it just me or do the stock evo 9 breaks dont stop that fast? My girlfriends 07 eclipse breaks faster then the evo with brembo's. It seems to me that the stoppind distance is much longer on the evo then most cars i have driven before. Or is it just that its AWD compared to most FWD cars i have driven?

Er, no, the Evo outbrakes just about anything in existence - to say that it's worse than MOST cars is incredible to me. I can't imagine any other car you've driven that could stop faster unless it was highly modified or was a supercar. If an Eclipse, which is heavier, has a shorter stopping distance, then something is wrong with your brakes.

The AWD portion is not relevant.

you might wanna check your tire treads. if your tires are worn thatll make stopping distance longer. then check your pads. i agree with warrtalon my viii stops on a dime...

I just got the evo last week so tires are new as well as the pads. What I meant to say was that the eclipse appeared to stop faster, I could be wrong. Perhaps stopping distance is shorter with the brembos. Thanks.

The evo doesn't have the initial brake bite that some cars have, I've driven several cars that "feel" like they stop quicker just because of the pedal feel and weight transfer, but if you where to go out and test your evo vs your gf's eclipse in a braking contest you'll will realize that the evo can be a deceptive car.

Another anomoly of the evo is that it doesn't "grab" with the stock clutch, so it is pretty smooth between shifts compared to most sports cars that have a shock/chirp/go when slamming gears.

Once you get used to it, it all becomes second nature, the evo has more driver feedback than pretty much any other car I have ever driven.
I know this is horrible to admit but I used to moonlight as a valet for a casino while I was going to school, and after a patron dropped off their car there was a nice little straighaway behind the casino, I'm sure you can use your imagination as to what happened when people brought in their vettes, vipers, etc.

Thanks guys I was thinking the same about the car being new.will the break squeak go away soon?

you probably are not going to be able to get rid of the brake squeak. Ive been told it has something to do with the compound mixture of the pad material. there will be harder spots in the compound, with actual metal dust, causing the noise. Most likely, you will notice the noise comes and goes, and often moves around. As long as the car is stopping well, and not creating grooves in the rotors, enjoy the fact that your car can outstop anything on the road under $100K. ok, that might be exaggerating, but not by much.
