I posted a similar question on EvoM, but didn't get any relevant replies. I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

Is there an appreciable difference in performance between changing the 2 stock front underbody braces for an aftermarket unit, like the Cusco, Tanabe, GTSpec, etc? I understand the differences in construction, but is there a positive and noticeable effect on the driving experience? I'm of the school that believes that any well-engineered chassis reinforcement is a good thing, but I'd hate to add the extra weight for no reason.

They have very little affect on performance, and most people do them for sheer "looks" (not that you can see them) or so that they can put them in their list of mods. They fall under the category of "cheap suspension mods that are easy to get instead of doing real suspension upgrades." Not to say those aren't helpful mods IN ADDITION TO a great coilover setup and the proper bushings, springs, and other misc items, but in and of themselves, they don't do much.

Let me add that I am glad you found us here, because you are exactly the sort of Evo owner we prefer at EvoTuners.net, and I feel remiss for not remembering to invite you personally. Welcome! I think you will find yourself moving away from EvoM and relying on this site as time goes on due to our people and our focus, but we do still need to get more good Evo owners in order to make it more active and useful.

The stock suspension is more than capable to handle track duty. When you add more power and max out the capabilities of the stock setup then an undercarriage brace, strut bars, etc paired with coilovers (not the cheap kind) will be a very affective package like Warr said. Other than that welcome to the best dang evo website on the net. Due to the fact that this site is much smaller than evolutionm any questions will be answered quickly with no bs.:dsm:

Thank you for the poignant comments and the kind welcome. I've decided against the braces.

Even when we do get bigger things will not change. There's no BS allowed plain and simple. It's not the size of the site, it's what's allowed to go on.
