Who is Right?

My friend and I where at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway about 3 days ago at Mid Night Mayhem. We saw this gsx eclipse and I was in my eclipse, so I wanted to run him. I saw him running this 87 rx7(turbo). So, we were watching when they first launched he pulled out about 1 and a half car leads ahead then the rx7 just started to pull like crazy and about 2 seconds later slowly he pulled 3 cars ahead. That is when you hear a tire squeak and the eclipse started to catch up then you hear a quiet boom and a puff of smoking slips out from underneath the hood of the eclipse. He pulls over to see what happened and we walk over to him. I look and he has blown his Head Gasket using a 125 shot of nitrous. Then my friend says and I quote" hahahaha Dumba** that's what he gets for being stupid enough to use nitrous." So, i'm like dude its not like its unfair or something to use it in a race. He says yea it is. I told him its forced induction just like a Turbocharger or a Supercharger. He says no its not man. Getting on we have this long arguement over it. Now, who is right? :thumb:

Your right...it is a form of forced induction..that is true...how ever there are a lot of "ricers" out there that don't know what they are doing with Nitrous and try to use too much...they are dumbasses...so in that aspect, your friend is right...I don't care if the car was an Eclipse or a Honda...I don't have things against the cars its more the owners...
A turbo or a supercharger never runs out of air to compress.... a bottle runs out of N2O pretty fast. In my view, (Even though I primarily drag race) if it is a temporary solution that can't be used on a road course or auto X it isn't going on my car.

I found this definition on some musclecar site:

"Forced Induction" is the process of using a mechanical system to "force" more air into an engine. This includes Superchargers, Turbochargers, Nitrious systems, and other mechanical systems, but not hood scoops which just direct outside air into the engine. Both Superchargers and Turbos use a compressor to "force" air into the engine, making it more dense (i.e. more oxygen). When a proportionately larger amount of fuel is added to the denser air charge, the mixture creates a much larger explosion and thus more power from the engine. Nitrous Oxide Systems ("NOS") works by directly injecting Nitrous Oxide (NO2) into the engine. The higher concentration of oxygen found in NO2 (compared to air) and more fuel leads to the same effect as Superchargers and Turbos. Although the basic concepts are similar, each differs in their design and execution."

I'd say N2O is forced induction, even though it isn't technically forcing more air into the motor.

The thing I don't get is why that kid was running a 125shot on a basically stock motor besides and bc,bov, and fuel pump, clutch, and intake>? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA seriously what a dumba**  , oh I mean:eek: ! :thumbdown

Oh, well it didn't happen so who cares, but I wanted to make him race again to see what would happen. He looked at me like I was crazy and the said STFU! I let him off with that one since his car got f*****.
It is the most powerful bold on for that money... so I think it is cool to run it, it's like driving with a dual boost controler... with low and high boost... I think that would have been better for him...

actually much more than that...unless you have the low/high boost settings tuned seperately...but even then...like 19psi-25psi wouldn't be more than a 70hp increase...defiently noticeable...accept not like nitrous...nitrous is INSTANT...that 70hp difference is like a launch while doing 60mph...boost difference is more gradual...but very nice:thumb: :D

I think your friend is right, but I'm European. :p

Let's put it this way: a turbo or compressor will need setting up etc and is a permanent thing. A bottle of nitrous oxyde is a temporary, short even, way of adding a few horses easily.
